Farms and Ranches
Natural grassland, improved pasture, and native forest on a cattle ranch in the Paraguayan Chaco.
Cattle graze open country at La Americana, deep in the Chaco of northern Paraguay, and drink from reservoirs dug across the ranch. The estate covers 30,988 hectares in the district of Fuerte Olimpo, in the department of Alto Paraguay.
Grazing runs over 9,146 hectares of natural grassland and 8,833 hectares of improved pasture. Water comes from sixteen tajamares, the earth reservoirs of the Chaco, thirteen of them fitted with Australian tanks and troughs.
Native forest covers 6,530 hectares and could support sustainable forestry for poles, beams, and charcoal; together with the open grassland, it also lends itself to nature tourism.
The soils are rich in phosphorus and other nutrients and can take soybeans and corn, a use that draws closer as logistics in the region improve.
What makes this a great rural estate
At La Americana, grazing on a very large scale rests on an established water system: tajamares, most of them fitted with tanks and troughs.
