Founded in 1991 as Orr Lake Elk by Dr. Mike Bringans and Sir Wallis Orr, the estate originally focused on breeding Manitoban Elk, Rocky Mountain Elk, and European Red Deer. Driven by Sir Tim, a trailblazer in the red deer industry, and Dr. Bringans, an authority in cervid genetics, the estate quickly gained recognition. Pioneering advanced techniques such as embryo transplants, genetic screening, and semen sexing, the herd rapidly produced record-breaking stags.
Since 2011, under new ownership, Laurentian Wildlife Estate has expanded its breeding program, aiming for the majority of stags to exceed 500 SCI (Safari Club International) points by age six. This ambitious goal has been pursued through the world’s most extensive Red Deer embryo transfer program and the use of semen from top global sires like ‘Nixon’. The results have been remarkable, with significant advancements in the genetic quality of the herd.
Dr. Mike Bringans, a world-renowned veterinarian and geneticist, remains integral to the estate. Known for achieving the first successful deer embryo transfer in the mid-1980s, Dr. Bringans continues to shape the estate’s breeding program as both a shareholder and consultant, ensuring its continued success and innovation.
The estate features the Boileau Hunt Camp, spread across 334 hectares and divided into three high-fenced hunt zones. It includes comprehensive facilities such as a lodge, support buildings, a private lake with a lakeside guest cabin, a kill shed equipped with walk-in refrigeration, a garage, staff quarters, and offices. Essential equipment like ATVs and tractors are also provided, enhancing the hunting experience and operational efficiency.
